Frequently Asked Questions

What is TranslateAir?

TranslateAir is a macOS app that lets you instantly translate any selected text — from any app.

The app lives in your menu bar for quick access, where you can perform both translations and OCR scans.

But it's not just limited to the menu bar: you can also trigger translations or OCR directly from any app using keyboard shortcuts.

In the Ultimate version, selected text is automatically detected and translated via a floating bar that appears right next to your selection — no clicks needed.

What is the Floating Bar?

The Floating Bar is a contextual translation popup that appears next to your selected text.

It shows up automatically whenever you select text in any app.

You can also trigger it manually using a keyboard shortcut.

Which translation engines are used?

TranslateAir integrates multiple top-tier translation engines, including:

  • – ChatGPT
  • – Gemini
  • – DeepL
  • – Google Translate

You can switch between them based on your needs — for speed, nuance, or technical accuracy.

Why does the app ask for Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions?

  • – Accessibility permission is required to enable global keyboard shortcuts and to detect selected text automatically for the Floating Bar.
  • – Screen Recording permission is needed to extract text from images or non-selectable content via OCR.

Can I use TranslateAir offline?

Not yet. TranslateAir currently requires an internet connection to access translation models and OCR services.

Offline support is on our roadmap.

Can I change or cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can manage your subscription directly inside the app via the Settings menu. You can cancel anytime and your access will remain until the end of your current billing period.
